Each Mind Matters

CCUIH is dedicated to reducing stigma and discrimination against people seeking mental health services and promoting wellness and resiliency in our California Urban Indian communities. We use our community driven media model to develop public awareness campaigns by centering community perspective and solutions, as opposed to top down approaches to public awareness campaigns that center behavioral change on the expertise of public health officials.  You can view some of our digital images that utilized our community driven model from our participation in the Native Communities of Care/Each Mind Matters movement in 2014 here.

#EachMindMatters Social Media Kit

CCUIH created infographics in collaboration with the Youth Center at San Diego American Indian Health Center to distribute in order to raise awareness about mental health stigma and its impacts in Native communities. Share these images on your personal and organizational social media accounts to join us in eliminating the stigma attached to seeking mental health resources. And don’t forget:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

About the Project: CCUIH facilitated a talking circle with Native youth and asked them to artistically represent an answer to the questions: What does mental wellness mean to you? And how do you access balance, peace, and strength when experiencing mental stress?  These were the results. We are so lucky to have had such bright and inspired images to communicate how Native youth, envision their relationship to their mental health. The aspiration for this project is to help Native youth to feel comfortable enough about their own mental health to feel confident seeking help when they need it.

facebookChanging a youth’s mind about suicide is sometimes as simple as letting them know that they are loved, valued, and that they belong. Do they know that you are safe to talk to? That they can come to you if they are in need? #EachMindMatters #MentalHealthAwareness http://ccuih.org/services/programs/each-mind-matters/

facebookWhen things around you look like they are coming undone. Create. Whether you weave, bead, dance or paint. Just create. You always have the ability to create positivity in this world. And when you do, you create it within yourself as well. #EachMindMatters #MentalHealthAwareness http://ccuih.org/services/programs/each-mind-matters/

facebookWhen you’re stressed out, sometimes it’s best to just sit back, close your eyes, and float with the currents of your mind and body. When you know yourself, you can tell when something’s not right. And when the time comes, don’t be afraid to seek help. #EachMindMatters #MentalHealthAwareness

facebookWhen seeking mental wellness, isolation and separation from family, friends, and community can make problems seem larger than they are. Look to loved ones to walk the road to wellness with you and carry you over obstacles. Remember: You belong. #EachMindMatters #MentalHealthAwareness

facebookSeeking help when in need is not only normal, it is natural, and chances are you already know someone struggling with the same issues. You don’t have to struggle alone. Others have already sought help, and so can you. #EachMindMatters #MentalHealthAwareness http://ccuih.org/services/programs/each-mind-matters/
