Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

The California Consortium for Urban Indian Health works with several interns on projects related to public policy, research, data analysis, and marketing/design. Some of our internships are paid, while for unpaid internships CCUIH is happy to work with students to earn academic credit.


 

Position:                                       Social Marketing Intern

Reports to:                                  Communications Coordinator

Location:                                      San Francisco-Presidio/Remote Possible

Time Commitment:                6 hours per week

Status:                                           Stipend, dependent on experience

 

Organization’s Description

The California Consortium for Urban Indian Health (CCUIH) supports health promotion and access for American Indians living in cities throughout California. Established in 2006, CCUIH is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) statewide alliance of Urban Indian health organizations and substance abuse treatment facilities collectively referred to as UIHOs. Position Summary

The Digital Content Intern will provide broad support in executing CCUIH’s digital strategy under the guidance of the Communications Coordinator. This role will be expected to create, manage, and share content across our social media and website platforms as well as perform data collection and analytics. CCUIH will provide orientation on both our social media and website strategy as well as connect the Digital Content Intern with resources to enhance their social marketing skills and CCUIH’s digital reach. The ideal candidate will take initiative, ask questions, have strong writing skills, and attention to detail. This position can be done remotely or from our office.

 

Job Duties

  • Follow issues relating to the American Indian communities, health policy, public health, the CCUIH membership and other relevant topics
  • Assist in carrying out the social media aspects of CCUIH’s various projects
  • Write and post daily updates to CCUIH Facebook and Twitter via Hootsuite
  • Create and post weekly updates to CCUIH Instagram account
  • Research social marketing strategy to creatively enhance our social media capacity
  • Perform other duties required by supervisor

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Excellent research, analysis, writing, and communication skills
  • Experience using social media for a nonprofit, club, or other organization
  • Ability to work independently and carry out tasks with creativity
  • Interest in Public Health, Health Policy, American Indian Issues

Position:                                            Evaluation Support Intern
 
Location:                                           Presidio National Park, San Francisco, CA
 
Status:                                                Paid Internship
 
Commitment:                                 Approximately 8 hours/week

The California Consortium for Urban Indian Health (CCUIH) supports health promotion and access for American Indians living in cities throughout California. Established in 2006, CCUIH is a nonprofit statewide alliance of Urban Indian health organizations and substance abuse treatment facilities. By blending the leadership and experience of our consortium members with shared resource development, and by combining applied research with educational and policy advocacy efforts, CCUIH offers innovative strategies to support the health and wellness needs of the Urban Indian community in California.
 
 
Position Summary:
 
CCUIH is working in collaboration with One Fire Associates on a cross-site evaluation of Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) activities. The GONA is a culturally specific substance abuse prevention activity that helps communities heal from historical trauma through understanding and healing of self, family, and community. Our intention is to build the evidence of GONA as an effective therapeutic intervention for Urban Indian populations. Job Duties:
 
• Effectively enter data into SPSS
• Manage a growing dataset with structured supervision
• Assist with quantitative data analysis
• Contribute to the dissemination of data findings
• Work effectively as part of a team
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
 
 
Required Skills:
 
• Coursework or experience in statistics and/or research design
• Experience working with SPSS (Preferred but not required)
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be an effective part of a team
