Organization’s Description:
The California Consortium for Urban Indian Health (CCUIH) supports health promotion and access for American Indians living in cities throughout California. Established in 2006, CCUIH is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) statewide alliance of Urban Indian health programs (UIHP) and substance abuse treatment facilities collectively referred to as UIHPs. By blending the leadership and experience of our consortium members with shared resource development, and by combining applied research with educational and policy advocacy efforts, CCUIH offers innovative strategies to support the health and wellness needs of the Urban Indian community in California.
Position Summary:Â Â
The Director of Policy will have both internal and external facing responsibilities grounded in serving Urban Indian Health Programs to advance the mission of CCUIH through excellence in policy, advocacy, outreach, technical assistance, research projects and related programs. The Director of Policy must have a strong understanding of Urban Indian Health Programs, Urban Indian communities, health care delivery, California health policy, including Medi-Cal and behavioral health systems, the federal trust relationship with Indian Tribes as well as the legal, policy and political frameworks impacting the IHS system. The Director of Policy supervises staff as appropriate, subcontractors, and sub-awardees in the areas of policy and budget analysis; technical assistance to UIOs and Tribal representatives serving on various state and federal Tribal advisory committees; and special projects related to Indian health. The Director of Policy is also responsible for ensuring the viability and growth of the funding supporting these activities, including aggressive attention to relevant funder relations, grants compliance and timely excellence in achieving and exceeding deliverables expectations.Â
Duties and Responsibilities:Â
- Provide political strategy on CCUIH Program policy priorities.
- Provide technical support and coordination for a number of different Indian Health Care Advisory committees.Â
- Responsible for the tracking, analyzing and reporting of current bills, and policies, that may impact California Urban Indian Health organizations.
- Prepare testimony, technical reports, policy position papers and support/impact letter, and advocacy materials on key health issues.
- Educate lawmakers and federal agencies on ways to improve health care programs and services for American Indian and Alaskan Natives (AIAN).Â
- Engage national UIO support for priority issues, working collaboratively with UIOs, Tribes and tribal organizations, creating regional and national partnerships and consistent and reliable outreach and education efforts to the UIOs.Â
- Contribute to the development of grant proposals and program development in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
- Ensure grant and contract deliverables are met within the required timeframeÂ
- With direction from the Executive Director secures adequate staff and interns to support the projects and activities.Â
- Meet regularly with the Board of Directors to inform new program development.
- Supervise and support policy staff, including the Health Policy Coordinator, through regular supervision, performance management, mentorship, and professional development.Â
- Collaborate with directors, managers, and staff across departments to align policy priorities, support organizational initiatives, and advance CCUIH’s strategic goals.
- Serve as a member of the CCUIH leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, strategic decision making, and the development of cross functional initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.Â
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and four (4) years of health-related work experience that includes completing contractual obligations under an AIAN health care program and experience with culturally sensitive health needs of AIANs.
- Must have a strong health care policy background, preferably with a good understanding of California’s health care landscape, including public and private health insurance programs.
- Strong writing skills including the ability to produce well organized and informative health and health care related reports.
Physical Requirements:Â Â
Must have the ability to use computers extensively, including typing, reading and preparing written materials. Must be able to communicate in English both verbally, and in writing, with staff, board members, partners, and community members. May be required to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work and stand for long periods of time when facilitating meetings, conducting presentations, or attending conferences and community events.

Location:
This is a remote position; however, frequent travel throughout California and periodic out-of-state travel are required for meetings, conferences, advocacy activities, training, and other organizational events. Regular travel to Sacramento is expected. Employees must reside in California and be willing and able to travel as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Outreach Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator serves as a frontline ambassador for CCUIH, building and maintaining relationships with Urban Indian Health Organizations, Tribal communities, partner organizations, state agencies, and community stakeholders throughout California by conducting a variety of outreach activities across the State of California. The purpose of outreach is to promote CCUIH’s brand as a trusted statewide health advisor, and to provide the value and services of our members programs as well as health educational materials for the benefit of American Indian and Alaska Native community members.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and continually update an outreach plan for community outreach activities.
- Conduct extensive outreach throughout California, including frequent travel to community events, Urban Indian Health Programs and Tribal communities. This position requires regular overnight travel and frequent weekend and possible evening work.
- Document outreach metrics including the number of people engaged, communities served, quantity of materials distributed.
- Develop and present outreach presentations for virtual and in-person outreach opportunities.
- Maintain an updated and easily accessible calendar of outreach activities, including community events, UIO visits, tribal community visits, and conferences.
- Nurture strategic relationships with collaborative community urban and tribal partners.
- Assist in the development of outreach materials.
- Track the inventory of outreach materials and coordinate with the Development/Community Partnerships Manager on ordering of materials.
- Coordinate outreach activities with Supervisor (staff attendance approval at outreach events, travel approval and coordination, etc.).
- Preparing accurate records and reports on the goals of the outreach plan.
- Gather community feedback and identify emerging community needs, opportunities, and trends to inform CCUIH programming
- Contribute as an active and collaborative member of the CCUIH team, supporting organizational initiatives, cross departmental efforts, and the advancement of CCUIH’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
- Other duties as assigned by Development/Community Partnerships Manager.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid and insurable California drivers license
- Excellent written and presentation communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- High level attention to detail and organization skills
- Ability to manage multiple outreach activities
- Knowledge and experience with basic social media platforms and websites
- Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports on development and outreach activities, to track and assess progress and address outreach program deficiencies as they occur
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, transport, and set up outreach equipment and materials weighing up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during outreach events, conferences, and community gatherings.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout California, including frequent overnight stays and regular weekend and some evening work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field preferred but not required
- Relevant applicable experience also acceptable
Location:
